Woven Carpet
Khal Mohammadi rugs are the embodiment of a legacy that draws its roots from the ancient weaving culture of Central Asia; a legacy that carries the labor, patience, and human stories thread by thread.
This story begins in the lands of Andkhoy, Afghanistan. The tradition of pattern-making, passed down through centuries, continues to live on in the hands of masters in Kunduz, Mazar-i Sharif, Aqchah, and the small cities of Northern Afghanistan. Each geography, each workshop, and each weaver leaves their own mark on this story.
The brand's founder, Khal Mohammadi, began this journey in 1963 with the wool dyeing business. She learned the secrets of natural dyeing from her mother since childhood. Her mother was a true master craftswoman who obtained dyes from vegetables and plants and prepared wool and thread using traditional methods for many weaver families in the village. This knowledge, passed down silently from generation to generation over the years, guided Khal Mohammadi's work as a silent legacy.
Since 1978, the name Khal Mohammadi has come to represent not merely a type of rug in this region; it has come to embody a unique approach. Patterns drawn from ancient Turkmen rugs have been reinterpreted, sometimes through forms inherited from tradition, and sometimes through the master's imaginative vision. His greatest teachers were always his customers. He knew how to listen, took care to understand their needs, and viewed each rug not merely as a product to be sold but as a living part of their lives.
Today, despite the passage of decades, Khal Mohammadi rugs still retain their original value; the reason for this is an unchanging philosophy:
The warmth of the natural color palette, the timeless richness of the patterns, and the sincerity of human labor.
Khal Mohammadi is not merely the name of a rug.
It is the name of an extraordinary master craftsman;
and above all, of a person remembered for his generosity and deep compassion.
We continue to carry this legacy to every corner of the world with the same respect and care.
The history of the patterns began in Khal Mohammadi's birthplace of Andkhoy, and later continued with production in Kunduz, Mazar-i Sharif, Aqchah, and the small cities of Northern Afghanistan.
The founder of the Khal Mohammadi brand entered the wool dyeing business in 1963 and has managed to make a name for himself in these lands from 1978 to the present day.
Khal Mohammadi's inspiration came from ancient Turkmen carpets; some patterns were taken from tradition, while others were products of his own imagination. His true teachers were his customers; he listened to them carefully and paid great attention to understanding their needs.
The most important information about dyeing she received, however, was from her mother. Her mother was a master craftswoman who obtained dyes from vegetables and natural indigo and prepared wool and threads for many weaving families in the village using traditional methods.
Today, despite 40 years having passed, Khal Mohammadi carpets remain as popular as the first day. The reason for this is still the same:
The warmth of the natural palette, the richness of the patterns, and the sincerity of the craftsmanship...
Khal Mohammadi is not merely the name of a type of carpet. It is the name of an extraordinary carpet manufacturer;
and above all, it is the name of a generous and deeply compassionate man.
